The problem
Generic chat tools overwhelmed casual writers with options and produced bland output. People wanted help, not a control panel.
Approach
Framing
Reframed the product around intent — “what are you writing?” — instead of a freeform prompt box.
Inline editing
Designed suggestion chips and inline diffs so edits felt like a thoughtful collaborator, not a takeover.
Trust & control
Added transparent sourcing and one-tap undo to keep the writer firmly in charge.
Results
- 120k monthly active users within six months
- 62% week-4 retention
- Featured in two major product roundups
